CMS Setup

When using a Content Management Server, 48 V PoE network switches are used to provide power and connectivity for ePaper signs. The CMS is connected to the same LAN or VLAN as the devices and all ePaper signs are managed by a single server. The configuration and management of signs can be performed using computers connected to the same network via the CMS Web UI or via the CMS API.

Serverless Setup

When using a serverless setup, 48 V PoE network switches or PoE power adapters provide power and connectivity for ePaper signs. The signs are configured one by one by connecting to the Web UI provided by the internal servers run in all ePaper signs.

ePaper Signs via the CMS

The ePaper signs display pre-rendered PNG images that are stored in the internal flash memory together with a configurable sequence engine. Following the rules in the configuration file, the sequencer coordinates the image updates in response to card scans, touch button presses and timeout events.

The ePaper signs connect to the Content Management Server via Ethernet, which enables the management of all devices and their content via a single Web interface.

Configure a Single ePaper Sign Without the CMS

The Content Management Server is perfect for larger installations but might be too complex for projects that require only a few ePaper signs. To simplify smaller installations, serverless configuration is featured in all PoE ePaper signs through an internal configuration interface that is served via the device’s Ethernet interface.

The functionality of the ePaper signs can be configured in serverless mode through 5 quick steps:

  1. Supply power to the ePaper sign and connect it to your computer via Ethernet by using a 48 V PoE capable network switch or a 48 V power adapter with a PoE injector
  2. Change the Ethernet configuration of your computer to manual and set the IP address – 192.168.1.2/24
  3. Open a browser and type the address – http://192.168.1.8
  4. Log in using the default user and password – admin
  5. Configure the ePaper sign and build beautiful solutions

Show Real-Time Updates on ePaper Signs via the API

Plenty of applications require real-time updates on the contents shown on the ePaper signs, e.g. lecture schedules, room booking or medical information boards.

These solutions implement custom middleware that bridges the gap between the application-specific information sources and the ePaper signs by implementing the following steps:
